Pause to Unpause
Things We Don’t Really Talk About
An evening all about GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause) & Pelvic Health
Wednesday
14th October,
7:00pm-8:30pm
Woollahra Sailing Club, Rose Bay
There are things that happen to our bodies in perimenopause, menopause and post menopause that often we don't talk about.
Not with our friends, not with our partners, not with our GP, sometimes not even with ourselves.
Leaking when you laugh or sneeze. Sex that's become uncomfortable or painful. Needing to pee constantly, or getting UTI after UTI. A heaviness or dragging feeling you can't quite explain. Wondering if what you're feeling is a prolapse - and having no idea what to do if it is.
Many of us just don't know who to see or talk to about this, or we may have been dismissed by our doctors and made to feel like this is just part of getting older.
Here's the good news - it doesn't have to be. There is so much that can be done, both medically and holistically, and maybe no one has ever taken the time to explain it to you.
This event lands just before International Menopause Day on 18th October, and there's no better time to start the conversation.
Join us for an honest and very open evening with two of the most respected women's health practitioners in Sydney - Lyz Evans, pelvic floor physiotherapist and founder of Women in Focus Physiotherapy, and Dr Basia Lowes, obstetrician, gynaecologist and advanced laparoscopic surgeon.
We'll talk about many things, including:
Why UTIs become so much more common in menopause - and how vaginal oestrogen can not only ease symptoms but help prevent serious, even life-threatening infections
Vaginal dryness, itching and irritation and what we should actually be using, from moisturisers to lubricants and hormones
Different types of prolapse, how to know if you have one, and what your treatment options are
Why every woman should see a pelvic floor physio at some point in her life - and whether it's always about "strengthening" (hint: sometimes the opposite)
Bladder and bowel issues and incontinence - far more common than we admit, and far more treatable than we think
Why sex might have become painful, and what can actually be done about it - including the role sex toys can play in supporting pelvic and vaginal health
Whether you can still run, lift weights or train hard when you're experiencing pelvic or GSM symptoms
And much much more...
This is a safe space to ask every question you've never known who to ask - and to walk away finally understanding what help is out there, and where to find it.
Because there's so much more than you think - and it's time we started talking about it.
